Various versions of the Maringale Betting System have been around since the 18th century. The Martingale Betting System is designed for wagering on an even odds, or close to even odds, bet. The system dictates that every time that you lose a wager, you double your wager on the next bet. For example if you lose your first wager of 1 unit + your second wager of 2 units + your third wager of 4 units, you have lost 7 units total. If you win your fourth wager of 8 units then you will be ahead 1 unit and would revert back to the initial 1 unit bet again after winning.
Does the Martingale Roulette Betting System Work?
The answer to this question is yes and no. The Martingale Roulette Betting System will produce a small win if you are able to continue doubling your bet until you win. This sounds pretty good but the two major problems occur when the variances swing and give you a long losing streak. You will either run out of money because, by doubling your wager every hand, the bet amount grows exponentially. The other problem is that you may exceed the maximum bet at the Roulette game that you are in. For example say that you are at a Roulette table with a minimum wager of $1.00 and a maximum wager of $100.00. We will make $1.00 the betting unit and bet on Red, which is very close to a even odds wager. See the following chart:
| 1 | $1.00 |
| 2 | $2.00 |
| 3 | $4.00 |
| 4 | $8.00 |
| 5 | $16.00 |
| 6 | $32.00 |
| 7 | $64.00 |
| 8 | $128.00 |
Looking at the above chart you can see that if you lose 7 spins in a row that you will have exceeded the maximum wager in our example. While Black will not come up on the Roulette Wheel 8 times in a row very often, because of variance it does happen.
How to Improve Your Chances With the Martingale Roulette System
In order to have the best chance of making the Martingale Roulette Betting System work for you there are two things that you must do. They are:
- Have a roulette bonus and a sufficient bankroll to withstand an extended streak of losses.
- Find a Roulette Game with as wide of a spread between minimum and maximum wagers as possible.
The Martingale Roulette Betting System will provide you with more winning sessions than losing sessions but the winning sessions will be small and the losing sessions will be big. You must be prepared to play for these small wins and to live with the larger losing sessions.
A Look at a Modified Martingale Roulette Betting System
A common modification to the Martingale Roulette Betting System is to, after a losing wager, double your bet + 1. Playing at Bodog Casino they have a Roulette Game with a $1.00 minimum bet and a $500.00 maximum bet. Here is a chart of a modified Martingale Roulette System where we are betting on Red with a Starting wager of $1.00:
| 1 | $1.00 |
| 2 | $3.00 |
| 3 | $7.00 |
| 4 | $15.00 |
| 5 | $31.00 |
| 6 | $63.00 |
| 7 | $127.00 |
| 8 | $255.00 |
Using this modification you will be increasing your win rate with the trade off that you will be increasing your losses during losing sessions.
